Timeout for a Huddle

It was February, 2004, and you know what that means….Huddle! Huddle is our annual marching band formal. It gives us a chance to celebrate the season, dress up, and see what everyone else looks like when they’re not sweating through their t-shirts. Huddle was held at the Lansing Center, which is a local banquet hall close to campus. The check in table was the first thing everyone encountered upon arrival. The Spartan Marching Band and honored guests were greeted by the smiling, cheerful faces of the Zeta Epsilon chapter of TBS. Once checked in, everybody received their own SMB Huddle 2004 martini glasses which are great for….Sprite.

The room was beautifully decorated by, who else, TBS. Each table had a small fish bowl filled with sparkly jelly (what the crap was that stuff, Nick?) with a tea candle inside. Green and white garlands adorned the rims of all the bowls, which were also surrounded by green and white flat glass marbles and delicious Andee’s mints. There was a platform where the honored guests, including our director, John T. Madden, sat which was decorated like the tables. On the wall behind the honored guests were the Big 10 flags.

Dinner was served when almost everyone had arrived. There was a vegetarian mean, roast beef, and chicken and all three meals were enjoyed by their eaters. When dinner ended, the speeches began. There

were three student speakers who were graduating seniors and some heartfelt words from Mr. Madden. A color guard award graduating seniors and some heartfelt presented annually was given to the girl who comes to practice every day with a smile on her face and a great attitude. It was given to Sarah Keeler, the newly elected President of TBS. Next we saw a video that highlighted our season, from preseason to the Alamo Bowl, including numerous shots of practices and a disgruntled Glenn Brough helping us all march to the highest standard possible. The video also had many clips of our performances on game day.

After the video, it was time to party! TBS hired an excellent DJ who played a wide variety of music from “Yeah” by Usher to the Kenny Loggins classic “Footloose.” We danced the night away and had an excellent time. Can’t wait for next year!!
